Meet the Team

William A. Shutzer

William A. Shutzer is a co-founder of SB Advisors.

 

Bill started his career at Lehman Brothers in 1972 and became a Partner at age 31 in 1978. During his time at Lehman from 1972 to 1993, Bill was an investment banker and at various times head of Lehman’s Corporate Finance department and deputy head of Lehman’s Mergers and Acquisitions group. Bill left Lehman in 1994 to become a Partner and later President of Furman Selz. At Furman Selz, Bill expanded its Investment Banking department from 40 to 220 professionals, making it an attractive acquisition candidate in 1998 for ING, a large Dutch global commercial bank. After completing his mandatory two years at ING following its purchase of Furman Selz, Bill returned to Lehman from 2000 to 2003 as a senior banker for a number of Lehman’s largest clients, and a Principal/Managing Director of Lehman’s Private Equity group. Bill then joined Evercore in 2004, and during his time at Evercore from 2004 to 2020, was both a senior banker and a senior member of Evercore’s Private Equity group. While at Evercore, Bill was also responsible for the founding of the Evercore Wealth Management division.

 

Bill is currently on the Board of Directors of ExamWorks, a company he helped found, took public in 2010, and then sold to Leonard Green in 2016. Previously Bill was a director of a number of public companies, including Tiffany & Co. (1984 to 2021), Practice Works (2000 to 2003), American Financial Group (2003 to 2005), CSK Auto (2003 to 2008) and TurboChef Technologies (2003 to 2009). In addition, Bill was a director of a number of private companies, including E&J Gallo Winery (1998 to 2000), Blount International (2001 to 2004), RSI Holdings Corp.(2002 to 2008 and then 2015 to 2017), Test Equity LLC (2006 to 2009) and Evercore Trust Company (2008 to 2018).

Bill is currently a Trustee of Prep for Prep, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Brearley School, a member of Harvard’s Joint Committee on Alumni Affairs and Development, a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council to the Radcliffe Institute and a member of Brookings Foreign Policy Advisory Board.

 

Bill has testified as an expert witness in U.S. Tax Court on behalf of E&J Gallo, Hallmark Cards and Estee Lauder and, in that connection, has prepared valuation reports.

 

Bill received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Harvard College.

Mayer Bick

Mayer Bick is a co-founder of SB Advisors.

 

Before founding SB Advisors, Mayer was a Managing Director at Evercore Partners., a leading global investment bank. Prior to joining Evercore, Mayer worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. and in private equity at Fenway Partners and ZelnickMedia.

Mayer has advised Levi Strauss & Co., TAMKO Building Products, Inc., Guardian Industries and Hallmark Cards, on a variety of strategic financial advisory matters and transactions, including providing valuations. Mayer also played a lead role in Evercore’s acquisition of the Special Fiduciary Services business from Bank of America and establishment of the Evercore Trust Company and Evercore Wealth Management businesses. Previously Mayer was a Vice President at Evercore Capital Partners, Evercore’s private equity group, involved in all aspects of the private equity business, including the acquisitions of Davis Oil and TestEquity LLC.

Mayer is involved as finance committee chairman and in other leadership roles in a number of non-profit and charitable organizations. 

 

Mayer has a MBA from Harvard Business School, a MA from Harvard University in
Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and a BA from Harvard College in Government. Mayer also completed a one year graduate program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Hartman Institute in Jerusalem as a Raoul Wallenberg Fellow.
